Our guests are invited to bring their own period-style picnic lunch and to make their picnic site look as period as possible (Please note that the event is not a potluck. Our hard-working catering staff will be taking a well-deserved holiday!).
Suggested costume for the event is late 18th century or Regency summer afternoon dress (1780-1818), but, as usual, costumes are admired, not required. PEERS will be re-creating the characters and “world” of Sense and Sensibility (since Sir John Middleton is so fond of hosting picnics and dances for the neighboring young people), and our guests are encouraged to come as historical Georgian or Regency characters or as their favorite characters from the other Jane Austen novels. Besides lunching and dancing, the event will also feature musical entertainment, singing, cards, and games of croquet for those will.
After the luncheon, the always elegant Bangers & Mash will play an afternoon of late 18th century and early 19th century waltzes and English country dances for your dancing pleasure, including the perennially popular Congress of Vienna Waltz and Sir Roger de Coverley. As usual, all country dances and set dances will be briefly taught or called.
This event is a thank you to all of our devoted fans, and we will not be charging a fee for admission. Donations for our brilliant and hard-working musicians will be gratefully accepted, however, both before and during the event.
