Please join Miss Sugar Cane and Junior at the Some Like It Hot Ball
- a romantic Roaring 20's dance set at a swank Florida resort hotel
in 1929. Dance hot swing, beautiful waltzes, and elegant vintage
ballroom dances to the dulcet strains of the extraordinary Lee Presson and the Nails.
The band will play their usual PEERS mix of classic Swing and smooth
ballroom dance favorites, including their famous arrangements of
"The Congress of Vienna," "Sir Roger de Coverley," and even a couple
of tangos for Osgood, Daphne and all you other tango aficionados.
There will be a pre-ball dance lesson with Persephone and Michael
Marangio in vintage Swing and Foxtrot for those of you who'd like to
get in some practice before the ball and there will be DJ music
during intermission for you insatiable dancers.
Inspired by Billy Wilder's classic romantic comedy, this ball is a
great opportunity to trot out your 1920's finery. 1920's costume or
vintage or modern evening dress is admired, but not required.
There will be a light snack buffet and cold punch but no bar (It's
Prohibition, sir and madam, and the ball is set in a public resort
hotel ballroom!). Your potluck contributions are, of course, most
welcome in the kitchen.
Oh, and if by some strange reason, you've never seen Some Like It Hot, arguably the
greatest comedy in film history, rent or download it ASAP. You'll
thank us. Really.
